Get Involved

Are you ready to unite with us, take on a challenge and help beat cancer?

Then get involved with Unite to Fight Cancer this year, one of Melbourne’s flagship community fundraisers. Choose your challenge – walk, ride or run – and take to the city’s beautiful parks and magnificent waterways on 27 October along with thousands of other passionate supporters of Peter Mac.

You’ll be part of a very special experience – from the inspiring opening ceremony when we honour the lives of those we’ve lost to cancer, to the time we come together at the finish line and celebrate our achievements.

You’ll be proud in the knowledge that with every step you take, every turn of your pedals, every dollar you raise, you are helping Peter Mac discover cures sooner.

ride
60km / 100km

Calling all cyclists! We’ve put together two special routes for you taking in city streets and leafy suburbs. You’ll pass Peter Mac’s new home in Parkville and even follow part of Melbourne’s iconic coastline.

If you feel up for the challenge there is the 100km route or, for those less familiar with Lycra, the 60km one.

We’ll be adding more details about the 2019 cycle routes in the coming weeks.

run
7km / 21km

Lace up your trainers and get ready to race around Melbourne in the 7km fun run, or our fantastic half-marathon. Take to the streets and beautiful parks of the city and explore Peter Mac’s iconic new home in Parkville.

It’s the perfect first long run for beginners, and a beautiful course for the more experienced.

Watch this space for more details on the running route in the weeks ahead.

walk
7km / 21km

Join the Peter Mac community for an inspiring and life-changing walk! Explore the streets and parks of Carlton and Parkville – you’ll even take in Peter Mac’s new centre.

Our shorter 7km walk is perfect for people who want to unite with us, but don’t feel up to the more demanding half marathon.

Our beautiful 21km route will see you make new friends while you help us seek cures for cancer sooner.

We’ll be adding walking route details in the coming weeks.

Invites to join exclusive Peter Mac training events

“Hi, I’m Rachel, your Unite to Fight Cancer coach! I’ll be welcoming you all on board, answering your questions, and providing you with the support you need to smash your fundraising goal. I’ll be taking part too, in the 21km walk. So if you’re up for the challenge and want to be part of a team, feel free to join ‘Team Rachel’ and we can walk together!”

Take part

On your own

If going it alone is more your style, then great! There’ll be plenty of opportunities to meet up with other challengers at our pre-event training events, including an exclusive tour of some of Peter Mac’s facilities so you can see firsthand the difference your fundraising can make.

And on the day itself, of course, you’ll be running, walking or cycling alongside thousands of other challengers, all united in their determination to fight cancer.

With a team

Challenge fundraisers are always more fun with a team. You can support each other in your fundraising activities, encourage each other as you train, and celebrate together when you cross the finish line on the big day.

You can create your own team or join an existing team, either when you sign up or later on. If you want to be part of a walking team (21km) but don’t know anyone else taking part, why not join ‘Team Rachel’ and walk with our friendly coach?

With your company

Just imagine uniting your colleagues, customers and community to fight cancer! It’s a great team-building event that sets you apart from your competitors as a leader in Melbourne.

Why not join our growing team of fantastic partners making a real difference to both their businesses and families facing cancer? You can find out more about becoming a Unite to Fight Cancer partner by contacting us at info@unitetofightcancer.org.au

Unite with us!

“I’ve taken part in a few challenge fundraisers now, along with my sister Debbie (right) and friend Kerry. Together we’re the Lunachicks, and we’ve raised over $17,000 for cancer research, a cause that’s close to our hearts.

Unite to Fight Cancer last year was very special to us – the atmosphere was incredible, and it was so inspiring to be walking with such a passionate crowd. Plus we managed to raise another $5,000 to help fight cancer, which is what it’s all about.

We’ll definitely be uniting to fight cancer again this year!”

Sharon, Receptionist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation

“I’m passionate about fundraising for Peter Mac because I have a close connection to the cause – my dad Graeme (right) has been battling cancer for the last 8 years. Over that time, I’ve seen him get very sick, and then fight his way back to health with the life-saving treatment he receives.

My dad is now a very committed supporter of Peter Mac. He’s done loads of cycling challenge events for them, and his teams have raised more than $140,000 so far. It was a privilege to take part in the 100km ride alongside him at last year’s Unite to Fight Cancer – and we’ll certainly be at the start line again this year!”
